Introduction

This essay will examine and discuss the representations of black people in comedy films such as Scary Movie (2000), Get Hard (2014), Ride Along (2014) and Pineapple Express (2008), discussing the representations that all of the films have about black people. This essay will focus on the representations of black people over other races as black people generally have a more varied amount of representations in comparison to other races.

Racism is an issue that is currently in all kinds of media, because of this the essay will be looking at the representations of black people in not just films, but in newspapers, magazines and in TV shows. This will give a wider understanding of the representations that accompany black people.

A representation is defined as "The ways in which the media portrays particular groups, communities, experiences, ideas, or topics from a particular ideological or value perspective.

The investigation will explore the variety of ways in that black people are represented in the films that have been chosen.

Initial Idea

I have decided to focus on the representations of black people in comedy films. I have decided to choose this area rather than British films as in the genre of comedy stereotypes are often exaggerated. I chose to do the representations of black people because racism is an issue that is regularly in the media. I will do a printed product so that I dont have to rely on anyone else other than myself.

Have an opinion homework

The growth of interactive and digital media is slowly making traditional forms of media obsolete and I believe that it will soon completely take over from the traditional forms of media. Interactive and digital are media forms like social networks, catch up TV, Sky plus and Netflix.

This issue became like this because people are getting easier access to high speed Internet. This is main reason for the decline of traditional forms of media as people can just check the news through social media or through an app on their smart phone. Having the news readily available on their phone also means they do not have to go out and buy a newspaper everyday which saves people time and money.



In my opinion I think that the growth of interactive and digital media is a good thing as it makes news, tv shows and films more accessible and saves people time and money. However there are negative points to the growth of interactive and digital media. One negative point is that it is making people extremely lazy as they demand to have everything at the push of a button, in my opinion this is going to get worse over time as more and more forms of media become available on the internet and will play a big part in how unhealthy people are becoming.



In the future I see traditional media, such as Newspapers, Magazines, Cinema and TV, declining to the point where the minority of people will consume the interactive and digital type of media. This is because digital media is more easily accessible. For instance instead of going out to buy a DVD you can stream in via the Internet in your own home all without leaving your living room. I believe that it will continue to grow and grow for this reason; people are becoming lazier and want everything to be easily accessible from their front rooms.
